We shoot food, sometimes chefs & bartenders

We're 2 food photography peas in a very diverse global pod. We like nothing more than a flame & some food. we don’t stand around and wait to be caught.

We may not be totally articulate, but we're fluent in evoking a response.

How did this happen?

Bagwell + Protasio was founded in Atlanta in 2010, but Iain Bagwell & Victor Protasio just didn’t know it at the time.

Iain Bagwell already was a well established & internationally recognized food photographer when Victor Protasio started assisting him. Immediately the two developed a rapport that would see both of them grow and eventually lead to one of the strongest, most dynamic partnerships in the world of food photography.

After several successful years working together Iain accepted a huge challenge from Time Inc. to reboot the food photography on their cookbook division but this left a moral dilemma as he didn’t want to leave Victor hanging by a thread. In the few months before starting at Time Inc., Iain and Victor worked closely together, helping Victor fine tune the skills needed to take the plunge into the world of freelancing. By the time Victor was ready to tackle the world, Iain was hiring Victor on regular projects at Time Inc. After a year or so at Time Inc., Iain was asked to help develop, design, plan & manage the Time Inc. dedicated Food Photography Studio, whereupon on completion Iain managed a team of more than 30 photographers, stylists, food stylists and freelancers — including Victor.

Eventually Iain decided the corporate environment didn’t offer the diversity he craved and reignited his freelance career, but continued talking about goals, plans, opportunity with Victor and how they wanted to continue collaborating. They realized that with their huge amount of collective and collaborative experience, their total knowledge of food, their love for their subjects and their passion and devotion to the craft that a partnership was unavoidable and joined forces to form Bagwell + Protasio.

Together Bagwell + Protasio continue down this ever changing path & offer the highest quality and best executed food photography, consulting & motion for any kind of project. Based out of a 19th Century loft in Castleberry Hill, Atlanta, the studio has a full Kitchen, full north facing daylight, LED, Strobe, Props, Motion & Still capabilities.
